Epson point of sale printers are designed to use consumables which are, like the printers themselves, manufactured to very high standards of quality and reliability.

Although compatible products are available from a number of sources, and - especially if purchased from outside the UK - appear to be significantly cheaper than Epson branded products, they rarely - if ever - meet these standards. This only becomes obvious when problems with consumables lead to printer breakdown. In the retail and hospitality sectors, cash register down-time can have a serious effect on sales.

ribbons

It is the ribbon cartridges, used in the TM range, which are most often sourced from other manufacturers. In the longer term, these can represent a false economy. If inferior ribbons are used, not only can the life of the print-head be significantly reduced, but the quality of output is unlikely to be up to recognised Epson standards.

inks

The main advantage to the ink developed by Epson for use with the TM-J7000 and the TM-J2000 series is that it dries very quickly, meaning that receipts or cheques will not smear, while the print-head is prevented from drying out by a complex cleaning system. In addition, the large capacity of the cartridge leads to less frequent cartridge changes, thereby avoiding the build-up of queues at the point of sale
